Bicycle Caliper Brakes
This was my final project for ME240: Intro to Mechanical Design and Manufacturing. In small groups, we designed a set of caliper brakes for a bicycle, starting from scratch.
The aim was for the brakes to stop the bike within 5 m from 25 m/s. They had to follow international safety standards (ISO 4210), as well as be aesthetically appealing.
We used many tools, from topology optimization, to finite element analysis.
Throughout this exercise, I learned about the engineering design process and best practices.
